One moment. Everyone. Two minutes.

Shutter is a photo app for people 16 and older. This is the whole thing.
  1. 01

    The shutter opens for everyone

Same second for the whole country, at a random minute, at least 4 days a week and sometimes 5. There's no schedule to learn. Nobody knows when, including us.

  2. 02

    Two minutes, both cameras

Back camera for where you are, front camera for you. It comes out with grain and an orange date stamp. You can retake, and friends see how many times you did.

Back camera: an empty hallway of blue lockers. Selfie inset: hands over a face.

    Post, then see your friends

Your friends' photos for this shutter unlock after you post. Missed the two minutes? Post anyway until the next one. It says how late, and it still counts.

Back camera: a school bus through a window. Selfie inset: a golden retriever.

Keep the streak, lift your school

Your streak is how many shutters in a row you answered. Schools with 10 or more people go on a weekly board that resets every Sunday.

Back camera: a skateboard mid-air. Selfie inset: a peace sign.

Before your first one

  • Shutters can arrive any time. Use your phone's Focus mode to sleep.
  • Never post while driving. Late posts are allowed.
  • A shutter can arrive during class. You can post late, it still counts for your streak.
